A análise

maior erro em volume — US$ 40,9 mi

Polônia 2025: Trzaskowski 64%, Nawrocki venceu

Véspera: 63,7% no liberal Trzaskowski (pico 66,4%).

Honduras 2025: o vencedor cotado a 12–14%

Romênia 2024: US$ 326 mi sem Georgescu

Lasconi era a favorita individual (73%). Georgescu estava no balde "outro candidato" (25%).

Em jan/2026, a plataforma recusou pagar US$ 10,5 mi no mercado "EUA invade a Venezuela?"

Analysis

The call of the cycle: US 2024

before everyone else

Trump at 60% while polls showed a tie

On Oct 18, 2024 the market already paid 60.1% for Trump with national polls deadlocked; it hit 67% on Oct 30 and closed eve at 55.9%. Counting confirmed it overnight — Polymarket/Kalshi shot to the top of the app stores as the oracle that "saw" it before the pollsters.

the asterisks

French whale, suspected wash trading, FBI

Trump's rise coincided with French bettor "Théo" ($45M+). Researchers flagged wash trading inflating volume; the FBI raided CEO Shayne Coplan's home in Nov 2024. DOJ and CFTC closed everything with no charges on Jul 15, 2025.

Error reporting

Where the market stumbled

costliest miss — $40.9M

Poland 2025: Trzaskowski 64%, Nawrocki won

On the eve: 63.7% for liberal Trzaskowski (peak 66.4%). Nawrocki won with 50.89%. A miss made with real money: it was the platform's largest non-US presidential market.

the forgotten long shot

Honduras 2025: the winner priced at 12–14%

Nasralla was the strong favorite (59.5% eve). Asfura flipped in the final days — with Trump's endorsement — and won with ≈40%. A ~45-point error on the winner's probability.

the winner wasn't even listed

Romania 2024: $326M without Georgescu

Lasconi was the individual favorite (73%). Georgescu sat in the "another candidate" bucket (25%). He led the 1st round with 22.9%; the Constitutional Court voided the race on Dec 6, 2024 citing Russian interference. Nicușor Dan won the May 2025 rerun.

upsets & comebacks

Senegal, Ecuador and Bolivia

Senegal: Faye (23.5%) won with 54.3%. Ecuador: González was the favorite (66%); Noboa (34%) took it with 55.6%. Bolivia: the 1st round traded as a Doria Medina (48%) vs Quiroga (44%) race — Rodrigo Paz, barely quoted, led it.

Special coverage

Where "the result" gets messy

venezuela 2024

The market paid against the official result

Maduro on the eve: 76.5%. With ~84% of opposition tally sheets showing a González win (and the CNE publishing none of its own), the platform resolved "Maduro did not win". The only case on the board where resolution and official declaration clash head-on.

peru 2026

A market with no consensus — the relative leader won

Nobody topped 22% on the eve of the 1st round (Keiko 22%, López Aliaga 18%, López Chau 12%, Sánchez 8%). Keiko took the runoff by 50.13% in a razor-thin count (declared Jul 3, 2026). A win by technicality — lousy calibration.

resolution under fire

The UMA oracle has made news itself

In Jan 2026 the platform refused to pay $10.5M on "Does the US invade Venezuela?" (capturing Maduro didn't count as invasion); a US soldier was indicted for using classified information to bet on the mission itself. The written rule outranks common sense.

LIVE

Brazil 2026: polls open tomorrow — Polymarket gives Flávio 64%

Flávio 63.9%
Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) — 63.9% Lula (PT) — 36.5%

A $164M market — the largest non-US presidential market live today. First-round polls give Lula the lead (anywhere from 37% with Quaest to 46.7% with AtlasIntel, depending on the pollster), yet the platform prices Flávio as the favorite: the same market-vs-polls divergence as the US in 2024. A reminder from the scoreboard: 55.9% was a hit in the US; 63.7% was a miss in Poland. The platform is banned in Brazil (blocked Sept 2026) and still trades record volume. Tomorrow brings the next test.

Fact check

Method and limitations

How we measured

  • Odds = last traded price before 00:00 UTC on election day, from Polymarket's CLOB API price history (25 markets, Oct 3, 2026).
  • "Hit" = the eve favorite won. Binary rule — it does not grade fine-grained calibration.
  • Results verified against official sources and the press (below).

What the numbers do NOT say

  • Concentration: ~3% of traders drive most of the price discovery.
  • Documented bias: a Vanderbilt study (Dec 2025) says the markets are less reliable than advertised and skewed toward GOP-friendly news in 2024.
  • Easy hits (99%, 98%…) say little; the informative ones are the 50–70% calls.
  • 2020 is out: no price series on the current API; on that eve, bookmakers briefly favored Trump and only corrected to Biden as votes were counted.
